System Requirements

MTPro will work on ALL Atari Computer systems including 520ST, 1040St, 1040Ste,
TT030, and Falcon. It is a "well written" program that will work in most
Resolutions (ST med, St Hi) including TT HI which is 1280x960 Res! MTPro is
very impressive at this resolution. It has been advised to turn off "blitter"
or "caches" with "older"programs, but MTPro seems to work fine with these
devices on. It also works in a Multitasking Environment such as GENEVA with
resizable 3-D window displays. MTPro will also work on a hard drive with
Directories,Or from Floppy disc.

MASTER TRACKS Pro is an excellent sequencer which in my opinion
is as easy to use as Cubase with professional results. There are also things
you will not find in Cubase such as INDEPENDENT TRACK LOOPING and a built-in
SyxsEex dumper. You can also import Standard Midi files and use the editing
Tools in MTPro to embellish them. This version also comes with CONTROL.ACC so
you can adjust your Color scheme to your liking once you load the program. See below.

Recording in Master Tracks Pro: A Tutorial

1. On the Atari desktop, Double-click on MTPRO36.PRG. The program loads.
Several windows open at once with the Track Sheet Window on Top. You will see
the Transport Bar and Conductor Window at the Bottom of the screen. On the
Transport Bar, you will see UNTITLED as a temporary name.

TO CHANGE YOUR COLOR and WINDOW SCHEME:

Go to the Atari Fuji Symbol, and select the desk Acc: CONTROL. A Dialog appears
for you to change your screen colors to your liking. Once completed, exit out
of Control, At this point you can also move around the Windows, resizing, etc
to your preferences. Once you are done. Go to FILE on the menu and select
PREFERANCES. A Dialog appears asking "SAVE SETUP AS PREFERANCES?" Click on YES.
Your color and Window preferences are saved.

2. In the Track Editor window, click on the Name box in track 1. A Track Name
Dialog box pops and asks you to type in the name of the track. Type in:
 For example: "Piano" .

3. Click into the next column in the track: CHAN. A dialog
appears for you to enter your midi channel and port. Type "1" in the channel
 feild.

4.Click into the next column: PROG. A dailog appears for you enter a
program or Patch change.Input 0 or 1 for a GM mapped piano sound, or whatever
patch number your Instrument uses for piano sound.

Do steps 2 thru 4 for however many tracks you want to set up.

5. Observe the Transport window, which has twelve screen "buttons"- Play,
 Record,
Fast Forward, Rewind, Pause, Stop, Auto, Click, Count, Sync, Punch In, and
 A-Thru.

Descriptions: Auto button to automatically rewind to the point of last start
when stop playback. Click button to hear a click tone on each beat of each
measure during Record or Play. Count button to get a click tone for one
measure before starting to play or record. Thru button to echo out one of the
MIDI Out ports on the computer's interface.

6. To enable a track for recording, in the Track Editor window, click in the
REC (Record) box for that track. A red circle appears and shows that the track
is record-enabled. Only one track can be selected for recording at a
time. Now record each track separately for the Tracks you have set up by
hitting ENTER or RECORD on the transport bar. You will hear a 4 bar count in
if you have COUNT selected on the transport bar, or if you have CLICK
selected, you will hear a click thru the entire recording. After the 4 bar
countdown, start playing your midi keyboard. Hit the SPACE BAR when you are
done. You will see a arrow Object in the PLAY column of the track. This
indicates you have data on the track. Play back your take by selecting the
SPACE BAR, or PLAY on the Transport bar. Now record more tracks, by enabling
RECORD as stated above for each track.

7. QUANTIZING
Go to the STEP EDITOR Window by hitting F3, or selecting with the mouse from
the "desktop".Highlight the entire piece by going to EDIT on the Menu and
selecting SELECT ALL.Under the Change menu select QUANTIZE. The Quantize dialog
appears with several Quantizing options. Click into the field to the Left of
QUANTIZE TO so it is "Checked". Decide on the Quantization value. It is
represented as NOTES. A whole note is 960,A quarter note is 240, an Eighth note
is 120, ect. Choose 120(eighth note) for this example. You can also choose to
"slide" notes ahead of the track by entering and checking off the bottom
dialogs. this might take some experimentation to get what you want. Select OK
when completed with your choices.

8.CHANGING TEMPOS WITHIN A PIECE
Highlight measure 1 to 5 by click-dragging the mouse into the Step Editor
feild. Under the Change menu choose Conductor. Select Set all Tempos to 135.

Applications and Shortcuts

The Function Keys are Shortcuts to the various windows.

F1 Track Sheet F2 Song Editior F3 Step Editor F4 Pitch bend
F5 Channel Pressure F6 Key pressure F7 Modulation F8 Controllers
F9 Program Change F10 Conductor Track

ENTER= RECORD
Space Bar= PLAY/ Stop
Right and Left Arrow keys = Steps thru the Time and beat Counters

Using the Looping Feature

Record a short riff or bassline in track one. Click on the LOOP for track one.
Then hit the spacebar to start it playing. The bassline/riff will repeat
itself.

Go to track Two, and enable Record, and start recording over the bass line. You
can go beyond the length of the bassline. Then click in LOOP for that track.
Eveything starts looping independent of each other. Keep on going recording
more tracks.

Using the DEFAULT.MTS

This is a file you can load that already has Track Names and program changes
already filled out that are mapped to GENERAL MIDI . For example: to record a
Piano part, just enable record on track 1, piano. This saves time and you can
get your ideas down more quickly without having to set up your tracks. You have
64 tracks,so you can program in more and save it as a Default file.

USING THE SYSEX LIBRARIAN

Under the GOODIES menu, select SYSEX. A dialog appears to receive and Open
sysex files. First click in RECIEVE and intitate a Sysex "dump" from your
Instrument with whatever Instructions that came with the instrument to do so.
The Dump is loaded into the buffer, and then you can put in comments about the
dump and save it for later recall.Unfortunatly, this Dialog does not open
Standard SysEx files, but only files that are saved in the manner described.
However you can save the patches used with each Song.

EXPERIMENT
With the other menu items, as this is the best way to learn.
